What is a Wetpour Surface? What is a Wetpour Surface?

Wetpour Surface

Wetpour Surface

The Wetpour Surface is the most common and popular form of safety surfacing installed in playgrounds. It is available in a wide range of colours and patterns to help stimulate children’s imaginations during playtime. The wetpour surface is cushioned and non-slip to reduce injury from falls on the hard surfaces found in many playgrounds. It also accommodates different play equipment and provides a level surface for wheelchairs to travel over.

A wetpour rubber crumb surface has the ability to last longer than other playground flooring types and requires minimal maintenance. This is due to the rubber granules and polyurethane binder being used which can withstand more wear and tear than other materials such as wood chip or PVC tiles. Providing you follow the correct maintenance schedule, your wetpour surfacing can easily last for 10 – 15 years or more.

Rain or Shine: Why Wetpour is the Ideal All-Weather Surface

Wetpour is a porous system that absorbs rainfall all year round. This prevents puddle formation and enhances stormwater management.

The granules used to make wetpour are a mixture of recycled and synthetic rubber, including styrene-butadiene (SBR) and EPDM. The mixture is mixed on site with a polyurethane flexible resin and laid wet into the existing or specially prepared base layer, creating a continuous surface free of joins.

It is then hand-trowelled to a smooth finish in the design and colour of choice. Once cured, the surface is a seamless, impact-absorbing, safe and durable surface suitable for use in all weathers.
